In new construction, close attention is paid to the site planning, building orientation, envelope design and detailing, as well as building systems and their integration with the overall design. The goal is to use reduce overall energy usage, optimize comfort, and lower environmental impacts. 

For renovation and addition projects, existing buildings are analyzed to find the best approach to optimizing energy efficiency. Improving the envelope with strategic insulation and air sealing, upgrading systems, and integrating renewable resources are reviewed as appropriate. Energy calculations and cost-benefit analyses are provided in order to guide the decision-making process.
